From virtual stylists to SEO, AI is establishing its place in the fashion industry. These are the most exciting innovations at the intersection of fashion and technology.
Search engines are redefining online shopping.
ThredUp’s AI search tool was included in Time's best inventions of 2024. The resale platform now caters to ultra-specific search requests, generating immediate custom results. “Our mission is to get people to shop more sustainably, and this tool makes it easier for people who may not be inclined to buy secondhand,” says ThredUp co-founder and CEO James Reinhart. ThredUp reported a 38% increase in the number of searches per session since the tool launched in August.
The startup Daydream recently raised 50 million dollars for a similar SEO oriented business. It is led by Julie Bornstein, who was the Head of E-Commerce for Urban Outfitters before founding and becoming CEO of THE YES. This marks the next step in a career at the cutting edge of e-commerce. Daydream utilizes AI to fulfill hyper specific shopper requests while pulling from a wide variety of brands.

AI is transforming personal styling with digitized closets.
The app Whering allows users to view clothing they already own in a digital closet. The platform creates AI renderings of the garments, so users can manage their closet and put endless combinations together. By encouraging fashion forward thinking with items that users already own, Whering is pioneering a creative social app to improve sustainability while decreasing consumerism.
While Whering makes it easier for people to style themselves, the Alta Ai Stylist is using AI to do it for them. Backed by supermodel Jasmine Tookes, Alta AI takes the ‘Clueless closet’ one step further. It not only catalogs users existing clothes, but makes recommendations for new ones, while acting as a professional stylist and putting outfits with both new and existing articles of clothing together.

Digital design is bringing dream jewelry to your fingertips.
Arcade is harnessing AI to design products for people based on their tastes, preferences, and requests. After generating a design, the platform connects users with their portfolio of jewelry makers to create custom, one-of-a-kind products. By acting as a middleman between customers and jewelers, Arcade uses technology to transform imagination into a reality while supporting independent artisans.

Virtual try-on is giving e-commerce an upgrade.
Lastly, at Couture Technologies, we have developed virtual try-on technology that uses AI to map together 3D renderings of clothing with shoppers’ personal digital avatars. After showing users what a garment will look like on their body, we display a fit map to showcase where each size will be tight or loose. By working directly with apparel brands, we are seamlessly integrating into brand websites to make online shopping as easy and personalized as possible.
